The third grade classes study explorers as part of their Social Studies curriculum. I thought it would be a great way to integrate technology to have them create a video about their explorer. The students did their research and fact-finding in their classrooms then came to the lab to find images that would illustrate what they have learned. They did not need to find exact images necessarily, just images that could represent their facts. The students visited several creative commons sites to find images including Wikimedia, Pics4learning and Flickr. The images were then saved to their personal folders and uploaded to Animoto. The photos were arranged in a meaningful, rational order and text was added for each photo. Students have a limited number of characters that can be used on the text slides so they needed to be able to be succinct and use only the key words and facts. This took some practice but the students were able to prune their words well.
