The Second Grade Legend Project

The Second Grade students hear and read many Native American legends throughout the school year. Learning what a legend is and why it is an important part of the Native American culture is a key part of the curriculum. In an effort to show an understanding of a legend, the students were asked to plan and present their own legends involving a desert animal. Each student worked with a partner to plan out the story. Then they were asked to present it as a "breaking news story".

In order to complete the project successfully the students had to work collaboratively and problem solve, think creatively and communicate their ideas using technology. This was truly a 21st Century project!
